Resolutions
I’m not the type to normally make New Years resolutions, but I think this year is going to be a little bit different. I feel like I accomplished a lot in 2008. But I’d really like to accomplish even more, in 2009. What I’d like to do the most is learn. I have Photoshop now, finally. As well as some other web building tools and programs. I’d really like to make a lot of use out of some of these things.. one of my favorite gifts this Christmas was a Photoshop tutorial book (Photoshop Classroom In A Book). I want to learn how to make my art better.. I want to learn how to build web pages and work with programs like Flash and Illustrator. I want to be productive.. I’m a little bit worried that I’m taking on too many things. Its getting increasingly hard to manage 3 blogs, 2 podcasts (with a 3rd coming, hopefully soon), writing for Prim Perfect, working on my art, building things for my store, learning the new things I’d like to learn, and still finding time for fun. I’m still trying to figure out a way to juggle all of this without dropping the ball or missing any deadlines.. (Like the one 4 days from now, that I haven’t written anything for, yet…) I’m stubborn and I refuse to let any projects go or fall by the wayside.. can we have 30 hour days, please? 🙂
In the meantime, its been GREAT having land on Podcast Island. I’m still waiting for Keeme to let me know when he’s ready to take his turn. I’ve been working on the house by Nicky Patterson, still. It was originally built with a very large and open floorplan, and had 3 rooms..
Since then, I pulled in the wall openings to make double wide doorways, added a set of french doors (non functional, since I don’t know how to script yet. But they look convincing and I made them phantom, so I can walk through). I put up some walls and made some doorways into the seperate rooms. Again, since I don’t know how to do scripting for a door yet, I’ve improvised with some curtains I found. The curtains are AWESOME!! They were full perm, FREE, and have a big menu when you click them that does everything from change the color, size, open, close, phantom, non phantom, set to group, owner or public, etc. I love them!! I put some up in the doorway in lieu of an actual door, and then others on the windows to give us more privacy.
I was still experimenting with floor and wall textures, trying to find something that really ‘clicked’, and just was not going anywhere. Then I started searching around for more than simple paint or wall paper textures.. I got the idea to do some wall murals, and build each room around that. I really love the moon.. and have said for a long time that my favorite part of day is the hour right before dawn, when the moon is just about to go down but the sun isn’t quite up yet. Everything is a soft blue color.. and its so soothing and beautiful to me. I wanted to base one of the rooms off of that. So, I scoured google and the internet for desktop wallpaper images until I found the perfect picture. Then I added curtains, blue carpet, and the finishing touch – a mini ice castle from Mudhoney, that was a free gift. It has a slight glow to it that when set to midnight, looks like a night light and matches the moon and swirls in this painting. I set the moon painting to full bright and added just a touch of glow, and this was the result.
Its perfect, and I love it. 🙂 Now I want to do something similar with the other rooms.. build each one around a theme with a wall mural as the focus. Its fun, and its relaxing for me when I’m tired and just want to mentally unwind. I already have an idea for the next one.. stay tuned. 😉
The room is beautiful, Nika! Great job – and the mural is simply perfect 🙂 Where did you get the curtains from?
I think I got the curtains on SLX, by Eamonn Tuncsik. Let me see if I can pass you a copy.
Actually, the curtains are on XStreetSL.com under my other alt’s name “azure Milev”. (I am also Eamonn.)
