Dexter Moore/Ihnen Recording Event

Last night I attended what was one of the coolest experiences in Second Life that I’ve seen before. A musician by the name of Dexter Moore held an eight hour event in Second Life where he recorded his upcoming CD, ‘Timescape’. The part that made this SO unique was that he didn’t just do this streaming audio. The entire event was also streaming video from the recording studio so that fans could not only listen in, but also watch the process unfold. It started at 6pm SLT and lasted til the early hours of the morning. I was there for six hours before I finally had to go to bed, and everyone was still going strong while I left. The event also doubled as a fundraiser in support of Diabetes Australia. At the time when I had left, over $125,000L had been raised. Dexter and the others in the studio ran through several takes of the CD for recording. In between takes they’d take a break and Dexter would chat with the audience, while still streaming on the video screen. I really don’t know if anything like this has ever been done in Second Life before, but I found the whole thing extremely cool and I had such a great time. The vibe in the venue was awesome, and everyone was thrilled to be a part of such an event. I recorded a few brief snippets during the event, and got Dexters permission to post them here. Each clip is 30 seconds long, just a sample of what we all witnessed last night. The first is a panaround of the venue and audience, followed by a short ‘studio tour’ that the cameraman took during a break. And then finally, a short clip of one of the songs that I thought was especially beautiful. You can find out more about Dexter Moore at his website: http://dexonyx.com/

Music Hyun from slnn.com was covering the event, and posted a great write up. http://www.slnn.com/index.php?SCREEN=article&about=two-worlds-event
